Weekly blogs
Recently, many of you have noticed several new "views" to your Weebly pages. How does this change/not change the way you feel about the content on your page? Explain. Then express how you plan to both improve your page and further the work on your Genius Hour Project in the weeks to come. I have only 8 views on my webpage, but I will post it on Facebook and have people check it out. I feel like my page is well organized and is a good way to learn about the different types of cancers. I plan on improving my page, by editing it and showing how much we have raised so far. We did not get to do the fundraiser at my church so we are struggling to get to $500 right now. Maybe we can do a fundraiser at the school?

Describe how you plan to use your time during the last month of school to meet the goal you've set for yourself for your Genius Hour. What can Mrs. Sutton do to help you meet your goal? We plan on making as many t-shirts and ribbons as possible to sell and continue to raise money for our fund. Our goal is still $500 and we aren't very close to it yet, but I hope to continue to raise as much as possible to hopefully reach our goal or at least get close. I hope that we can continue raising money to help our local cancer patients. Mrs. Sutton could help us do one last fundraiser. I just enjoy having time in class to work on our websites and to edit them. Read the article "How Geniuses Think." Respond to the following: Describe the author's interpretation of Genius and how it differs from conventional definitions of Genius. What are the shared strategies of geniuses? How does your Genius Hour project encourage you to use some of these strategies? The authors interpretation of Genius is different from other definitions of Genius. The author describes Genius as "thinking productively not reproductively." A Genius does not think't need to be super smart, just one possible way to solve a problem, they think of as many possible ways they can to solve it. They don't have to have a gpa of 4.0, or have a high IQ. The normal thoughts of someone being a Genius are that they have to be super smart, a 4.0 student, having a high IQ, or scoring a 1600 on the SAT's.
Genius's are able to look at problems differently and find different ways to solve the problems. Genius's are able to make their thoughts quite visible. Genius's are also able to prepare themselves for chance. Geniuses know "how" to think instead of "what" to think. By having this strategies in mind, I hope to use some of them to make my Genius Hour project the best it can be. We have not made a lot of progress since blog pot number six. We have not got a chance to all get together and work on it, because we are busy between work, cheer leading, and school work. As soon as we all get a chance, we will try our best to make as many shirts and ribbons as possible in the matter of a day.
We will each be assigned a color of cancer awareness weekly, and work on it throughout that week. We are trying our best to raise $500 on, or before May 6th 2016. As of right now, we have $130. We will do as much as we can to boost that up to at least $300 by the end of March. Step 1: First Hannah and I will work on getting orders for ribbons and shirts and to start raising more money for the Cancer Loan closet.
Step 2: Next we will begin making the shirts and ribbons to sell to the customers. Step 3: Then we will start delivering the shirt and ribbons and collect the money that will go towards our fundraiser. Step 4: We will continue making the shirts the ribbons and selling them until the end of the year. Step 5: Once this project is over we will take all the money we earned and donate it to the Cancer Loan Closet in Kingsford, Michigan. Which aspect of your Genius Hour Project do you enjoy the most? Which aspect do you enjoy the least? My favorite part of this project, is knowing I can save lives and have a blast at the same time. This is a great opportunity for me, because I can learn more about the different types of cancer. My partner Avery and I, have a Go Fund Me page for people to donate money to go to local cancer patients in need. Avery and I are hoping to be able to have a dinner to raise money for our project.
My least favorite part of this project, is time. This project takes hours and hours at a time to get a fair amount done. But we have to realize that its worth it because its for a good cause. After watching Ken Robinson's TED Talk about education, express your thoughts on how his views do/do not relate to the concept of Genius Hour. What about Ken Robinson's views do you agree/disagree with? After Watching the TED Talk by Ken Robinson, I feel that his views somewhat relate to genius hour. He explains that children have a mind full of creativity. Genius Hour is full of creative ideas. He also explains that we fear failure. Which is absolutely true. Some students might try to "quit" there own creative project, just because something went wrong. Instead of quitting something, you should try your hardest tow outcome it. Like Ken said, we learn from our mistakes.
I agree that we should have less tests! I would rather taking a quiz after every chapter, and then a test after every 2-3 chapters. Plus it saves on paper and gives the teacher more free time. Now that you have taken part in Genius Hour for a Marking Period, how can you relate to the Article? Do you agree/disagree with the info in the article? Do you have anything new to add to the discussion? I myself, can relate to the article, because I have never heard of Genius Hour before this year. I agree with this article, because I like doing my own thing, and not what others tell me to do. I also like how no matter what happens, we can always work around the problem. Genius Hour is by far my favorite thing to do in English. I look forward to being able to work on my project every Friday. I like to hear about other people's projects, and see how the pro's and con's of the project.
Now that your Genius Hour Project is underway, what do you predict will be your biggest obstacle? How do you intend to overcome that obstacle?I think that my biggest obstacle will be making the t shirts. "Should I use Pink Shirts will white tie dye, or white shirts with pink tie dye?" Is my biggest concern. Also, I don't know if I should tie dye them first, and then put the sayings and the cancer sign on them, or do it the other way around. I have also been thinking about the prices, should I change the t shirts to $15? I think $20 for the shirts is just asking a little too much.
To overcome my biggest obstacle, I'll make half of the shirts Pink with white tie dye, and the other half white, with pink tie dye. I will take the pink shirt and then put the quote on the shirt, and then tie dye it white. I will also take one white shirt, tie dye it pink, and then put the quote on when its dried. I will see which one myself, and others like the best, and use it. I will change the prices if it becomes necessary. Describe what your Genius Hour project would look like if you could make it the very best it could be.If I could make my Genius Hour Project look like the best it could be, I would spend an hour every night on my project. I would try to make at least one shirt, and 10 ribbons every day. After I get home from school/work, I would do my homework and then work on my project. Then once I have at least 10 t shirts and 20 ribbons, I would start walking around Kingsford going door to door to sell them.
Another thing I could do, is customize t shirts. $15 for the plain t shirts tie dyed with the cancer symbol, $20 for tie dyed shirts with the cancer symbol and a name on the back, and $25 for tie dyed shirts with the cancer symbol, name, and a quote. If Someone has a family member that has died from cancer, I would put the name of the victim, and a date on for them if they would like. $5 extra for anything else. I hope this project is a success, and can help local cancer patients in need! |
